What is a scientific poster? |
||
One of our very own award-winning customers at a poster conference. A scientific poster is typically a fairly large display that quickly and effectively communicates information (usually research) at a meeting, conference, seminar, or any other similar gathering with a poster session. Not all posters are necessarily scientific in topic, scientific poster sessions were just the first to really gain momentum and hence the term stuck. However, consistent among all topics is the need to efficiently convey your information and stimulate interest and discussion. Viewers should be able to walk by and quickly scan your poster with the intention of returning later to study and discuss those of greatest interest. As a general rule of thumb, a person should be able to fully read your poster in 10 minutes or less. Common among scientific posters are the following sections:
You can put as much or as little information on your poster as you'd like, but keep the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) principle in mind while desiging your poster. Don't overcomplicate things and clutter your poster with so much information that it's hard to read. For your first poster you may want to keep the number of sections to a minimum and focus on quality of content. Introduce your question, give an overview of your research, present your results, conclude with a thought-provoking discussion of your results, and lastly list any important references or acknowledgements. ![]() |
